Biography
Eddie Vedder (born Edward Louis Severson III; December 23, 1964) is an American
musician and singer-songwriter who is best known for being the lead singer and
one of the rhythm guitarists of the grunge and alternative rock band Pearl Jam.
He is widely considered a cultural icon of alternative rock.
To date, Pearl Jam has sold over 30 million records in the U.S. and an estimated
60 million worldwide. Pearl Jam has outlasted many of its contemporaries from
the alternative rock breakthrough of the early 1990s, and is considered one of
the most influential bands of the decade. Allmusic refers to Pearl Jam as "the
most popular American rock & roll band of the '90s.
He is also involved in soundtrack work and contributes to albums by other
artists. In 2007, Vedder released his first solo album as a soundtrack for the
film Into the Wild (2007). His second album, Ukulele Songs, along with a live
DVD titled Water on the Road, was released on 31 May 2011..
